Request a Trial Week of Adult Classes*

We highly recommend booking a trial before committing to membership. A trial of adult classes costs $10 NZD and will give you access to up to 4 beginners classes during a consecutive week, including classes for Kickboxing and MMA at Auckland MMA (Click here read more about classes included in the adult membership). Beginners classes are automatically available to book for your trial. Intermediate and Advanced classes for trials are not included in the trial week unless negotiated with the head instructor prior to booking. To request a trial week, please complete the form below. 

Adult Membership at VR Jiu-Jitsu and Auckland MMA

VR Jiu-Jitsu is the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy within Auckland MMA. The adult membership to VR Jiu-Jitsu is the same as membership to Auckland MMA. There is only one membership for both sets of classes. Both programs offer excellent value on its own, but you can choose whichever classes you wish to attend as part of your full membership. Intermediate and Advanced classes require pre-requisite training, so seek the instructor approval before you can attend those classes.

Fundamentals BJJ

Beginners class in fundamental BJJ techniques required for progressing beyond the white belt. This class is highly recommended for all ranks. Instruction within the fundamentals class go over details that may not register easily for the beginner, but the details will become easier to pick up the more you attend these classes. There is no pre-requisite skills for this class. Training in the full gi uniform (BJJ kimono with belt) is required for this class. If you do not have a gi uniform, VR Jiu-Jitsu will provide a loaner BJJ kimono each time you attend for your trial period. Once you become a full member, you are required to procure your own gi uniform within a month's period.

Fundamentals MMA

Beginners class in the grappling techniques that are most effective for the sport of MMA. There is no pre-requisite skills for this class. Training in the NoGi uniform (rash guard and shorts) is required for this class.

Fundamentals Kickboxing

Beginners class in kickboxing techniques required for progressing to the kickboxing pads, intermediate, and advanced kickboxing classes. This class is highly recommended, even if you've trained kickboxing elsewhere. Instruction within the fundamentals class go over details that Auckland MMA instructors require their students to know before progressing to the intermediate or advanced classes. Details will become easier to pick up the more you attend these classes. There are no pre-requisite skills for this class. Boxing gloves (16 oz are recommended) are required for this class. If you do not have pair of boxing gloves, Auckland MMA will provide a loaner pair each time you attend for your trial period. Once you become a full member, you are required to procure your own pair of boxing gloves within a month's period.

General BJJ

This class has instruction on BJJ techniques that benefit all levels of BJJ. The minimum rank recommended for this class is White belt 1st stripe. The instructor's approval is required if you do not meet the recommended class rank. Training in the gi uniform is required for this class.

NoGi BJJ

This class has instruction on NoGi techniques that benefit all levels of BJJ. The minimum rank recommended for this class is White belt 1st stripe. The instructor's approval is required if you do not meet the recommended class rank. Training in the NoGi uniform (rash guard and shorts) is required for this class.

Advanced BJJ

This class has instruction on BJJ techniques intended for the blue belt rank and above. The instructor's approval is required if you do not meet the recommended class rank. Training in the gi uniform is required for this class.

Leg Locks

This class has instruction on leg lock grappling techniques, which include footlocks, toeholds, kneebars, and heel hooks. It is intended to get the grappler familiar with these techniques so they can safely deal with the technique being applied on them in a roll. BJJ grapplers with a white belt 1st stripe or equivalent is recommended as the minimum class rank. The instructor's approval is required if you do not meet the recommended minimum class rank. Training in the NoGi uniform (rash guard and shorts) is required for this class.

Sambo

This class in an introduction course on the competitive sport of Sambo, taught by an experienced Sambo coach and competitor. Completion of all the Fundamentals MMA and Fundamentals Kickboxing course is required for attendance. Training is done in the NoGi uniform (rash guard and shorts) and sometimes in the Gi top.

Kickboxing Padwork & Beginners Sparring

These classes are intermediate level that work combinations in Kickboxing using focus mitts, thai pads, belly protectors, and kick shields. The beginners sparring sessions are light contact sparring with other beginners. For Kickboxing Padwork classes, competence in Fundamentals Kickboxing and boxing gloves are required. For Kickboxing Beginners Sparring, competence in both Fundamentals Kickboxing and Kickboxing Padwork are required, and the required training gear are boxing gloves, shin pads, head protector, groin guard, and mouth guard.

Advanced Kickboxing & Sparring

This class in an advanced level that work one-on-one contact drills with a partner and full contact sparring with other students. Competence in the Kickboxing Padwork is required for attendance. Boxing gloves, shin pads, head protector, groin guard, and mouth guard are required for training in this class.

Beginner MMA Sparring

This class in an intermediate level where students do light MMA sparring with each other. Competence in the Grappling, BJJ, and Kickboxing Padwork is required for attendance. MMA gloves, shin pads, head protector, groin guard, and mouth guard are required for training in this class.

MMA Fighters

This class in an advanced level where students do MMA positional sparring with each other. Competence in the Grappling , BJJ, and Advanced Kickboxing is required for attendance. MMA gloves, shin pads, head protector, groin guard, and mouth guard are required for training in this class.

Open Mat

Open mat sessions are where students can have sparring grappling rounds with each other. You can roll as much as you like within the class time. You can roll in the gi or nogi uniforms. The recommended rank level for open mat is White belt 1st stripe. The head instructor's approval is required before you may attend an open mat.
